Wednesday 12th January – Cross Programme Event – Researching Your own Institution

This was the first PGCert Cross Programme in our timetable and it was not totally what I expected, but I enjoyed the insight it gave me into what the MA in Academic Practice consists of and the cohort that comprises it.

I think as a new student on the PGCert with very little teaching experience, the topic at hand (which was researching your own institution) was something I had no experience of, so my ability to contribute was challenged. However, it was interesting to see how my viewpoints shifted (along with the cohort) in the poll, once the group had heard from Duna Subri and her own experiences of persistent inquiry into her own institutional research.

I am looking forward to my first tutorial with my personal tutor where I can share some of my questions and struggles with, as at the moment I haven’t felt much personal connection to the staff on my course (which is of course normal!). So far, it’s been a a really exciting start and I can’t wait for some more in-person sessions where we can meet each other more easily.
