After my acceptance on to study the PG Cert I was experimenting and thinking how being in a classroom/studio made me feel, especially as I had some nervous energy with the knowledge at hand that I’d soon be teaching as well as learning.
I spent some time in the studio almost in a meditative and reactive state after classes had ended and had my Rolleiflex with me which I was viewing the room through.
I experimented by being high or low to the ground, to change the perspective and experience the space from different levels to explore concepts of status. I also moved some furniture around and studied the support structures of table legs and chairs.
I settled on trying to look at the object ontology and architecture of the green chair, interested in how even when empty, the design can be perceived as having a personality, spirit and be empathised with.
This began some thinking about how changes to the design of chairs would have a huge impact on the overall teaching and learning experience and student mind-set.
I would like to continue this avenue of enquiry as it not only feeds into my reading and writing in the PG Cert but wider photographic practice and research.
